4th March 2010
Hi everyone!
Food4Everyone has had another great week thanks to so many WONDERFUL people!
Thanks, thanks, thanks to Matt H for compiling all our Food4Everyone DVDs together!!!
Matt has done an AMAZING job!!!
If you would like a copy of the DVD just let us know and we’ll send you one.
Thanks to Margaret Klower for her FANTASTIC newspaper article!!!
Margaret did a wonderful job of telling our story to all her readers. Thank you so much!
Thanks to Sara for her very kind donation of wool for our lovely knitting ladies!
A big thank you to the Holt family and the team at Glenworth Financial!!! Once again, Wayne and the team have very kindly had a collection in their office and given the funds to Food4Everyone!!! Good on you guys!!! We appreciate this effort so, so, so much!!!
An ENORMOUS thank you to Arlene and Roger!!! They have been so very, very generous by making Food4Everyone their wedding gift registry!!! Their kind wedding guests have been busy faxing through their donation forms to Food4Everyone for the last few weeks and we are just so, so, so thankful for their generosity! This is HUGE!!! We cannot thank Arlene and Roger enough for their amazing act of kindness!!! They made the choice to put the needs of children living in extreme poverty before their own, and have made a HUGE difference by doing so!!! This is the perfect example of how you can easily turn your own event (engagement, wedding, birthday, funeral, anything!) into an amazing act of humanity, making a huge difference to the lives of those who are desperate.
If you would like information on how to turn your own event into a Food4Everyone fundraiser, please, please, please give us a call. The process is very easy for everyone and can make such an enormous difference!!!
As you know, Rinna and Lee (PovertyAid4Cambodia) have arrived back from Cambodia. We donated the 10 computers (five to the centre for the disabled and five to the centre for vulnerable children) and Rinna said both centres are extremely grateful. So far, PA4C has constructed 78 wells and we continue to do this work into 2010. Great job Rinna and Lee!!!
Finally, thank you to everyone else for you ongoing support to Food4Everyone!!!
Have a great weekend,
Maggie

2nd March 2010
Hi Everyone,
Here is Rinna's (PovertyAid4Cambodia) update from his recent trip to Cambodia!
Dear Colleagues,
How are you doing? HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR
After coming back from Cambodia, I feel like not having enough gifts to distribute poor villagers and money to construct more wells in villages of three provinces for their needs of clean water to drink and use. On my first trip to the Cambodia-Vietnam border through the Krol Kor village in Svay Rieng province, rice fields alongside of the rough road to reach our destination of gift distribution in the Ampao prey village, Chumbok Commune, Svay Chrum District, which is located approximately three kilometres from the border and two hours from the capital of Phnom Penh were dried (not drought) and some had no grass to feed livestock due to not having sufficient water.
In this village, PA4C and F4E distributed Mosquito nets, Sarongs and Kroma (Khmer scarf) for 165 families as a whole village and 11 wells (eight wells built at the Ampao Pey village, Chumbok Commune and another three wells went to Levia, Konteik and Tuol Raing villages, Kruoh Commune at the Svay Chrum District) including bread and condense milk for their lunch.
After chatting with villagers and overseeing our 11 wells, one villager came to me with his tears of joy and said that “Since 1979, you are the first person helped our village by distributing gifts and constructing wells. I personally thank you and your organisations (PA4C and F4E). I don’t have anything to say more about your kind support our needs due to not having water to plant rice and drink”. I also replied to him that “our small organisations (PA4C and F4E) have little money to fulfil your needs”. We left for Phnom Penh after distributing our gift on 16-01-2010.
PA4C and F4E distributed 35 poor families in the Cheung Deung village, Baray District, Kampong Thom province. Each family received 1 Mosquito net, 1 Kroma and 1 can of Fish. This village is situated approximately 2 and half hours from the capital Phnom Penh along the main road to Siem Reap and 10 kms of rough road to this destination.
We (PA4C & F4E) also went to distribute gift to our 38 families in the slum at Kampong Cham. Each family received 10 kg of rice, 2 bottles of fish sauce and 2 bottles of Soya sauce. However, we managed to build one cottage for 1 disabled father who has 2 kids lived under the bridge (no refuge) for the cost of $50 USD at the slum in Kampong Cham.
On 23-01-2010 we went to Siem Reap with our friends from Germany to distribute gift for 200 families in the Srei Kvav Commune, Angkor Chum District. Each family received 1 Kroma, 15 Kgs of Rice, 2 Can of Fish, 200g of MSG, 10 tablets of Para and school Materials (e.g. 3 books, 1 ruler, 1 rubber, 1 pen and 1 pencil) for 500 pupils of one primary school. This commune is located approximately 60 kms of good road from the city of Siem Reap and another 15 kms of rough road. It took us to reach this destination approximately two and half hours. We travelled of the rough road across the dried stream under police military escort due to a safety reason. This arrangement was by the Deputy Governor of Siem Reap. The people living around the school are poor and do not have water for their needs. For example, one lady scooped the water from the puddle along the street near the dried stream for her needs and survival.
After having a discussion with the Deputy Governor of Siem Reap, District Governor of Angkor Chum and chief of villages, if we can, we (PA4C & F4E) would be able to help these poor villages in this commune by distributing seeds and some necessities for the children such as some sanitary toilets, and constructing wells toward our goals for 2010 after the meeting.
If we decide to help these villages in three provinces I will contact them to give exact quote for each well cost in those areas. I have attached some photos for you all.
Finally, I would like to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your kind support of PA4C & F4E in Cambodia. Without your help our work in Cambodia would not be happened.
Kind regards
Rinna,
PA4C

Hi everyone,
We have to start by saying that the Penrith Panthers Football Jersey raffle ended with a FANTASTIC result!!! We raised approximately $1700!!! We want to give a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE thank you to John Sadler who helped us sell hundreds of tickets and also to Lorraine of Penrith Paceway!!! We could not have done it without you guys!!!
And more WONDERFUL news, thanks to your generosity we now have a new TukTuk!!! This is AMAZING as it means that the children can now travel much more safely than what they were!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
We also want to thank everyone who purchased Christmas animal gifts for the farmlet! You have brought us even closer to achieving self-sufficiency!!!
A big thank you also has to be given to May Parks who so very kindly donated wool so that our lovely knitting ladies can continue to make “death blankets” and beanies for the Aids and maternity wards at Kampong Cham Hospital.
Oh, and a Very Important Announcement: A final date has now been set for the most exciting night of the year! Yes, that’s right, the Food4Everyone Trivia Night!!! The date is now set for the 22nd May 2010 at Leichhardt Town Hall. (We will send you more information on this exciting event as the date gets closer).
Finally, we are very excited as Rinna and Lee (PovertyAid4Cambodia) have just returned from their trip to Cambodia! Again, thanks to your generosity, they were able to oversee the construction of many wells across Cambodia as well as the distribution of rice, seeds and the planting of trees!!! Rinna told us that the floor in the little school next to the rubbish dump has now been fixed and the computers have been distributed to both the Centre for Vulnerable Children and the Centre for the Disabled. We will have pictures to show you very soon!!! Both centres were extremely happy and grateful for this help.
We will send you a full update on Rinna and Lee’s trip as soon as we get all the details.
Until then, thank you all so, so, so much for your continued support!!!
We are looking forward to sharing with you even more wonderful achievements throughout 2010!!!
Warm regards,
Maggie

Hi everyone,
There is so much to tell you, that I don’t really know where to begin!
It is all extremely exciting and I cannot believe how very generous you have all been since being told about the flood in the F4E farmlet. Even the typing of this email was generously donated! How about that? Thanks heaps, Leslie!
Firstly, the farm is already looking much better and thanks to your generosity we have been able to employ someone to begin to do some damage control. I really need to thank some of you personally but I fear that I may forget someone so if I do please, please, please forgive me.
Roxy and her friends for all their hard work in creating an amazing array of Christmas cards, candles and Christmas decorations (Now all for sale!!!).
May Parks for her contribution of wool and to the Spanish knitting brigade who are continuing to knit away (thank you so much Manolita).
Jan Cunningham who continuously and tirelessly gathers material for her bric-a-brac markets which now take place on a monthly basis and who is now at the centre selling raffle tickets!
The Gorrigo family for their generous contribution following the flood (Thanks Mani and Greg).
And of course to Annette H who has now supported us for years!
Arlene Harris who, as you know, is also now doing the markets for F4E.
Mark Howell for his ongoing and generous support
And of course Bart Adams who so generously was able to acquire the Panther’s Jersey for us to raffle.
Matt Hall, thank you for your ongoing support (by the way, Matt runs a PC coaching firm and is presently having a half price promotion i.e. $30 per hour. He will come to your place and will be your very own computer slave! His number is 1800 225 572 if you are interested).
Talking of the Panther’s Jersey (Go Panthers!!!) we started the raffles for this last Friday and it is going to be FANTASTIC!!! Again I owe so many thanks to so very many.
Gordon Tallon and Nicole Sweeney for valiantly facing the masses at O’Donohoes last Saturday with the first tickets for sale.
Many thanks also to Wendy Connell and Jennifer Moses for their amazing energy and willingness to sell raffle tickets at Penrith Council (Good onya Penrith Council!!!).
To John S who will himself be facing the crowds this weekend at the Grey Gums!
We still have over six weeks until Christmas, which will present an amazing opportunity for us to continue to sell tickets wherever we can. At this stage we plan to sell tickets at the clinic during the week, unless we have further offers to take the Jersey to other places and then hopefully we will have enough volunteers to take it to different places on the weekends where lots of tickets can be sold. Now more than ever we need money for food. I have established a contact in Phnom Penh with someone I met during our visit to one of the garbage tips, who is pricing high protein bars which apparently are specifically designed for malnourished children. Hopefully all of the money which we make from the Jersey will go towards buying these health bars, which can then be distributed on a regular basis to the centre for vulnerable children in Phnom Penh (where the garbage picker children live).
You may recall what I told you about the conditions of the floor at this centre during my last update, of course, this continues to be firmly embedded in my mind and the moment that we can we will make arrangements for this floor to be fixed. Rinna will actually visit in January and start getting things done!
Now for the details about the actual draw of the raffle for the Jersey. This is exciting news (thank you so much to Bart Adams for organising this!). The raffle will be drawn on Tuesday 22nd December 2009 at 7.00pm at O’Donoghues Pub in Emu Plains. One of the Panther’s players will be there to draw the winning ticket (Onya Panthers!!!). Hopefully we will be able to organise some publicity for this event. I would like to thank everyone involved. Sooo, if you have a chance, please turn up!!! Most importantly, however, we need volunteers to come to the clinic on weekdays to sell tickets downstairs (hopefully every ticket sold will feed four children) or to volunteer to take the Jersey to a place they know. As for Geoff, you are an Angel! Thanks so much for letting us muck up your day so that we can sell tickets!
Also, you may recall we are in the process of organising a Tuk Tuk for the farm. If any of the F4E children out there have any good ideas for holding a Tuk Tuk-a-thon please let us know!
Finally, as our beautiful team of knitters grow, we continue to be desperate for more wool. If you have any spare please, please bring it to the centre. Also, we could do with any spare material as the Spanish Knitters are also making bags for the children to take to school.
I am determined that this is not going to turn out to be another three page composition and as such I leave it here but will get back to you the moment I have more exciting news!
Oh yes, we’ve also come up with another exciting venture to fundraise next year! F4E is now registered with EagleEye recruiting and we’ll test whatever is testable to raise money!!! Right now we need a male, smoker, aged between 35 - 44, who wants to quit, to travel to Campbelltown on Wednesday night at 8.00pm. If we can find someone they will pay $80 to F4E. If you are interested in donating your time to do this please phone Dianne on 0401 552 465.
And yes, this means we need YOU to register too!!! So here we are, the moment you have a chance please register at www.eagleeyerecruiting.com.au
Again, I cannot thank you enough.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Warmly,
Margarita

Hi Everyone,
Food4Everyone would like to give an ENORMOUS THANK YOU to all of you who have been so kind following our recent appeal for help due to the flooding of our farmlet.
It is at times like this that we are reminded of just how wonderfully kind and generous people really are! Your kind generosity will enable us to start regenerating the farm as soon as possible, once the water has gone. Because of your support, in no time at all the farmlet will be flourishing with fruit, vegies and animals once again!!!
We cannot thank you enough for all your support!!!
We have had a few people ask how they can make a donation so we have attached a donation form. With this form you can either make a donation by credit card or direct deposit. Simply fax, send or email the completed form back to us. (Remember all donations over $2 are tax deductable).
THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH again for all your fantastic support!!!
We will be forever grateful!
All our thanks from,
The Food4Everyone Team

Food4Everyone URGENT APPEAL!!!
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP NOW,
IF WE ARE TO MAINTAIN OUR DREAM OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY!!!
As you can see by these shocking photos, our farmlet in the Windy Village has been flooded by all the water flowing down from the North. The students have been able to move the pigs into the mushroom house but we will need to replace all the vegies and fruit once the water has gone.
We would appreciate any contribution you can offer at this time, no matter how small!!!
Thank you so much!

7th October 2009
Hi Everyone,
Another busy but very exciting month for Food4Everyone!!!
Firstly, a big THANK YOU to Arlene for holding her first Bric-a-Brac at Rozelle markets! The day was a fantastic success, but for Arlene to be able to continue with her Bric-a-Bracs she needs more stock. So any old jewellery, china, homewares, books, etc that you want to get rid of, we would love to take them off you! Just email or call our office on 02 47373400.
This weekend Jan and Doreen are once again holding our Hawkesbury Bric-a-Brac. This is always a great day so come along and look for the Food4Everyone stall!
Saturday, the 17th October is our next begging date. As usual we will be in the Pitt Street Mall. If you are in that part of town on the 17th come and say hello (and give us any spare coins that you may have in your pockets!!!).
And yes, it’s already that time of year again when we need to start preparing for Christmas!!! How about making Food4Everyone your charity at your Christmas parties and get-togethers this year???
We will also be selling our Food4Everyone animal gift cards for the farmlet again this year. Because of your generosity last Christmas, by January 2010, our farm will be self-sufficient!!! To maintain this, we need more gifts of pigs, chickens, ducks, fruit trees, etc. Details and prices will be coming to you very soon!
Please let us know of any other Christmas fundraising ideas that you may have!
On the 21st October 2009, we will be heading back to Phnom Penh and Kampong Cham to visit all the Food4Everyone projects. We will also visit the Centre4Hope and the rubbish dumps to see exactly how we can best help and provide the most effective assistance. We will let you know EVERYTHING the moment we return!
Once again, thank you as much as always for all your support and generosity!!!
We could not make all this happen alone!!!

17th September 09
The Food4Everyone team is ecstatic! As I told you a few days ago, the “Salt and Pepper” Group met in order to view the Food4Everyone footage.
You will not believe this, but they were able to raise $1000 (YES, $1000!!!) by selling their cards. We cannot possible express how we feel! As you all know in the next few weeks we will be back in Cambodia and this means literally endless new possibilities for us in terms of helping out where it is most needed! (See pictures attached).
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, “SALT AND PEPPER”!!!!!!!!!!!!
And thank you so much to Sherelle for her wool and her time!!!
Keep it coming! The Spanish ladies are hot to trot!!!
And last but not least, thank you so much to Bart and Marina for their assistance in getting our favorite team’s signed football jersey to auction at our next trivia night! Good on ya, Panthers!!!
So much wonderful help from so many wonderful people! Words fail me today! (How much better does it get!!!)
Maggie

14th September 09
Hi everyone,
Another crazy and hectic month! So many people to thank once again. Where to start? Ongoing thanks to our beautiful knitters. This month in particular to Ms Kath Uphill who continues to devotedly spend hours of her precious time knitting for the children of the Kampong Cham Hospital and to Rhonda McHugh who also devotes hours and hours to the same task. We are so grateful to you both!
I have said this before, but will say it again, many thanks to all of you who week after week so generously place coins and notes in our moneybox. You may think that this goes unnoticed or that a few coins do not make a difference. Believe you me… Food4Everyone is all about small change making a huge difference. So once again thank you so very much.
This month also thank you to our students on placement for spending hours of their time working on different aspects of the program such as pamphlets and DVDs. Again, without these resources it would be so much more difficult for us to get assistance and the help that we want.
To Jan Cunningham who last month managed to raise $400 (800 full tummies) at the Bric-a-Brac. Many, many thanks to all those people whose donations made that possible. Please keep it coming. Anything that is unwanted to you can be sold or taken to Cambodia with us. Again, what is something of no importance to you or an item which may normally be discarded, can be sold even for a small sum of money and before we know it there’s another $400 in the kitty.
To Arlene Harris for her ongoing commitment, her cheerfulness, her positive outlook and her eagerness to help despite her commitments. Arlene held her first stall at the Rozelle Markets on Sunday! THANK YOU! She is always thinking of ideas and always striving to do something for the cause.
I have already spoken to you about our beautiful group of Spanish women, the “Salt and Pepper” group, who have spent hours and hours of their time making emparchment cards which they have sold. All proceeds will go to Food4Everyone.
On the 16th September I will be attending with Jan to give these beautiful women a talk and to show them some of our DVDs. They tell me that they are now ready to start knitting but do need wool. SO ANYONE OUT THERE WITH ANY UNWANTED WOOL PLEASE SEND IT THIS WAY. It will be very much appreciated.
Some important dates this month:
The 19th September is our next begging date.
On the 20th September we will be having a picnic at Cabarita Park at 12.30. Anyone wanting to meet other Food4Everyone supporters is more than welcome to attend. It’s an informal, “bring your own” affair. Meet at 12.30 under the gazebo at Cabarita Park in Cabarita if you are interested. For further details phone me on 040477858.
Having noted the next date for begging, next Saturday the 19th September, I can not thank our begging team enough. Words fail me for this one because I am very aware of how hard and inconvenient it can be to beg in the Pitt Street Mall (in all sorts of weather conditions). You guys, however, turn up there month after month and there is no doubt that without this regular income coming in, Food4Everyone would not be where it is today.
Talking of where Food4Everyone is, we will be in Cambodia at the end of next month so we will have lots and lots to tell you after our visit there. We are soooooo excited!!!
I think that’s all for now. Thanks again for EVERYTHING!!!
Please let us know if you have any other ideas.
See you at Cabarita!
Warmest regards,
Maggie

18th August 2009
Hi everybody, it feels as if I haven’t written for ages because as usual so many things have happened.
As I told you last time, Andrew was going to Cambodia and he is now back. It has been fantastic being able to discuss the improvements in the Windy Village with him. The greatest news we have is that by January 2010 no Food4Everyone money will be needed for the various feeding projects (for perishable food), because the farm will be producing enough food by then. HOW FANTASTIC IS THIS?!!!
The other great news is that the fishpond (please see attached picture) is now complete. Andrew says that if this proves to be successful there are enough funds to build a second one. The potential for feeding people is enormous with this new addition to our farm. Andrew says that pig production is proving to be the most effective way to get some money back in order to continue to maintain the farm.
Apparently the feeding at the Windy Village will now only happen once per week as the village is clearly prospering and the need there is not so great. On the other hand, the situation in the slums continues to be deplorable with the children suffering more and more. Unfortunately, Andrew noted that they now know that some of the parents are selling the food that we give them in order to buy drugs or alcohol. Because of this, a great reduction of food packs has been made which clearly will have a negative impact on the children. An idea which Andrew and his crew are working on now is the establishment of a drop-in centre for the children of the slum where not only can they be taught literacy, but also be fed and be provided with a safe, loving environment. Clearly we will keep you posted on any news on this project as soon as we know. Because of the huge reduction on food cost, F4E can look at subsidising rental for this centre (and the farm goodies be used for the kids there).
The AIDs project unfortunately continues as it is and clearly this will be a program which will need to be funded for the long-term. The patients of the AIDs ward are defenceless and hungry and we will not let them die without dignity. Thank you so very much to all of you out there who continue to knit endless blankets to remind them that someone in the world does care.
Andrew also went to visit the Centre4Hope in Phnom Penh. The centre, as you know, was launched recently in August. At this stage, the centre has been established and ten computers have been bought. Unfortunately, the local rubbish dump has been relocated which means that the “rubbish” children will no longer have access to our centre. Whilst initially we thought that we may relocate again, it was pointed out to us that some of the children are now in an even worse off position because of their inability to now feed themselves by rummaging through the rubbish. So at this stage we have decided to stay where we are and to reassess the situation later as we go along. Again, we will let you know of the developments of the Centre4Hope.
The “Friends” program is soon to be launched and we will be emailing pictures of children who need friends. You are reminded that no financial requirement is necessary to become a friend. The objective of this program is to let the children know that someone out their in the world cares for them and is willing to spend some time on them. Obviously, if finances allow, friends can send books, etc, to their child or even visit them in Phnom Penh.
I think that is all for now, we have enclosed a few pictures for you to see how everything is going. And of course I cannot go without once again thanking a multitude of people without whom Food4Everyone would not exist. Thank you so much to the “Salt and Pepper” group who, this coming Wednesday, will be selling cards at UTS with all proceeds going for Food4Everyone. Also, my thanks to Sharon from Avon who donated products to make another raffle basket. Thank you so very much to our students for working on behalf of Food4Everyone and to Jan Cunningham for supervising them (as well as everything else that she already does!). If I have forgotten to thank anyone I truly am sorry but I think that by now you know exactly how I feel about all the help that we receive.
Talk to you soon,
Maggie

How fantastic is this?
Check out the attached pics and meet the “Salt and Pepper” group, our latest Food4Everyone supporters. “S and P” is a group Spanish speaking women who meet weekly to have fun! They are now joining forces to make “parchment” cards (mostly for Xmas) to sell for Food4Everyone. You may know that parchment is a paper art dating back to 14th Century Spain. It is extrememly beautiful and takes hours and hours of work and dedication. Manolita Provenzano, the group leader, calls it “love”. I think it’s GREAT!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
So if you can come up with any ideas on where to sell these cards, please let me know.
At your work? Any shopping centers? PLEASE HELP!
Also, we have not been very successful in motivating our supporters to have Food4Everyone morning/afternoon teas so we’ve decided to lend a helping hand. We are asking our two students on placement (yes, F4E has its own students now!) to go around and visit our supporters and help them organize little events to raise funds. We think that a staff or friends or sports group “cuppa” would be the best way but you may have a better idea. The point is that we are now in a position to offer practical help, for example, talk to your team, friends, etc, buy cakes, show DVD’s (Karaoke anyone?). Our very first volunteers for this are the staff of the Canterbury Migrant Resource Centre (Thanks heaps Violet!).
And finally, the DVD of our last trip is now ready and it clearly shows the improvements to all Food4Everyone projects. So if you want a copy please give us a quick tingle! (It is free of course!).
And finally, finally, Andrew is on his way to Cambodia on Wednesday and I cannot wait! He is visiting our Centre 4 Hope (C4H) and will let us know all about it when he gets back. And of course he’ll come back with lots of info on the Windy Village and our farmlet and the students and the new fishponds and the pigs and… and… and…
As soon as we hear we will let you know EVERYTHING!
Regards,
Margarita Parrish

2nd July 2009
Hi everyone,
Another extremely exciting week! In fact this week compares to our first week in Kampong Cham in April 2006. You see, this week we are opening the new “Centre 4 Hope” (C4H) (yes, that’s what we’ve decided to call it) for the children who work in the rubbish dumps and for the disabled youth. I think we may have already told you the rent is $230 a week so with all of your help this is very “doable”. Unfortunately, our coffers at the moment do not extend to furnishing the centre in the way in which we want to. We have dreams of colourful couches, toys, books, pencils, etc and for that we need your help once again.
We have also asked for you to become a “friend” of the children who will attend the centre. Very soon we will be displaying the children’s pictures with their details and once again we urge you to assist us with this. It would be FANTASTIC for the children to be able to receive emails from you from Australia. From someone who, although a long, long way away cares for them and is bothered to send them a few words of encouragement occasionally. As I’ve said before, there is no commitment for this project. If and when you feel like buying a book, a warm pair of socks or a pair of gumboots so that your friend does not get hurt whilst they are picking up rubbish, then that is fantastic. If, on the other hand, you have no money yourself then no problem! At least you will be sending messages of care occasionally and hopefully as their English improves, the children will be able to write back to you in more detail. Imagine that! Being able to be part of a child’s life who lives in those conditions.
I’ve already explained before that our dream is to have a centre full of safety packs so that the children can simply drop in, pick up a pack and then go if that is all they need to do. Borith (the coordinator for the “Centre 4 Hope” (C4H) is presently organising volunteer nurses and doctors to attend the centre so that if the children are hurt they do have somewhere free to go for help. Any volunteers out there who can provide a first aid kit??? Does anybody out there work with anyone who could provide free medical supplies??? Vitamins? Gloves? Protective clothing? Masks?
Whilst it would be fantastic if we could provide each child with a food pack every day, the reality is that we cannot afford to do this at this stage, therefore, the plan is for one of the volunteers to put a pot on the stove every morning, to throw in a couple of chickens, lots of vegetables, some rice and to buy a whole lot of bowls at the local market so that whenever a child comes in dirty and hungry they can be given a steaming bowl of yummy food to fill their tummy!
One of the things that I have said before is that a very easy way to help is for you to have a raffle. This keeps small amounts of money coming in all the time and as I’ve said so many times before it’s the small bits that add up to be huge bits. At this point in time, for example, we have a jelly bean guessing competition going on at work with guesses of 50 cents each. This means that even if only ten people a day have a guess another ten kids have been fed when otherwise they would not have been. So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give some thought to having a raffle at your workplace. If not, how about a morning or afternoon tea? All you need to do is get some of your own friends together. Everybody brings a cake and they donate $5 for the project. It really doesn’t get much easier than that and it gives you all the opportunity to meet up with your friends, have some comfort food and feel fantastic because of what you are doing (just remember that calories eaten for love do not increase your weight!). They’ll be SO appreciative in a small corner of the world!
Before we always used to say that we can make a difference, now three years on, we are at the stage where we can definitely say that we HAVE made a difference! And being able to say this just motivates us further to continue to do so because we now know the incredible difference that we can make. Andrew from Heartland is at the moment compiling all of our DVDs together and it tells an amazing story of the power of many… of the power of care… of the power of humanity. I won’t go on, as you have all heard it all before… but this week, as every other week, I cannot go on without thanking the multitude of people who make Food4Everyone what it is!
Firstly, my thanks go to Mark and Jason from Cyre who once again donated his time, money and colourful ink to print all the pamphlets and pictures which will be displayed next Saturday at the Poverty Aid 4 Cambodia (PA4C) disco on the 4th July. (By the way remember tickets are running out very, very fast and now I really mean it!) For a last minute table please contact us as soon as possible. This promises to be a great night! Can you believe it, this year alone PA4C has raised enough money to construct 56 wells around Cambodia as well as help 600 elderly people with gifts of sarongs, seeds and mosquito nets.
Also, in terms of thanks, thank you so very much to Manolita P who so generously donated one of her pieces of emparchment. Manolita even had the art piece framed for us to auction. Emparchment is artwork which originates from Spain from the 14th Century. It is laborious, extremely time consuming and one of the most beautiful pieces of craft I have ever seen. So there you are, wait for the next trivia night to be able to have a look at it. In the meanwhile thank you so much Manolita!
And of course, thank you to Rhonda M and Lathan’s nan who continue to knit for us so that our dignity blankets can continue to be given to the Aids ward. Thank you as well to Auntie Nettie and Mel who have also knitted a blanket for one of the patients. And to Maggie S who was the first to request a “friend”.
Also many thanks to all the great ideas that come our way every day! To Mark H for his efforts into contacting a company in the United States which apparently makes protective lightweight plastic shoes which could be used for the children in the rubbish dumps. Thank you to Karla and Eric for planning to acquire all the company beanies from Eric’s workplace!!! And to Janet V for her great idea of producing shoulder packs where the safety items can be carried and therefore not lost by the children. We are thinking this idea through. We do have bags left from last Christmas and we may need volunteers to change the handles so that they sit across the children’s shoulders and therefore make them easier to carry. We would not want them to lose those precious items which may mean the difference between theme acquiring an infectious disease or not.
Our feeding program in the Windy Village of course continues as strong as ever, although, lately there seems to be less children attending. Having excluded potential problems, this is a fantastic sign and hopefully means that the area is becoming more affluent and therefore the children will be less reliant on foreign aid. The farm continues to be going extremely well. Maharishi Vedic University sent a couple of students who have already established the first stage of the fishpond. They will return in July during their school holidays and will replant the entire vegetable garden and organise the second fishpond. As I have said before, we are tremendously excited about this project because it means that with the addition of fish in their diet we have pretty much covered all of the dietary needs of the children in our projects.
All the pigs, chickens, etc that were given for Christmas and Easter are doing wonderfully well (Ok, yes, not so well, some of them are now only with us in spirit!).
The Dignity Food program continues to be going strongly and we remain committed to doing everything that we can to allow the patients at the Aids ward to die with dignity. As I have said before there are a number of you beautifully people knitting not just blankets but beanies for the children there. I think I may have mentioned before that Channa was negotiating with the gaol to build us some bookshelves for the children and hopefully some books will be donated. The thing is that the children of the patients of the Aids ward hang around what is a horrifying environment with very little to do. Any ideas??? Please give us a call.
As for the gaol, they are growing strong and stronger. Our last plan was for us to donate more money for them to plant fruit trees around the perimeters of the prison. I am yet to be told by Channa whether this has happened or not but the moment that I do hear I will let you know.
Finally, Andrew will be travelling to Cambodia in the next couple of weeks and I’ve asked him to take footage of the Centre 4 Hope in Phnom Penh as well as of the children. I cannot wait to be able to show you these pictures!
Thank you so much once again,
Margarita
P.S. And to all our wonderful beggars! Sorry about the pneumonia you got from begging in the rain! The next begging date is the 18th July.

Hi everyone,
We are SO EXCITED because as we send this email to you today, three students from MaharishiVedicUniversity are arriving at the farmlet to start constructing the fishponds!!! How FANTASTIC is that??!!!
We are also VERY, VERY EXCITED to confirm that we have secured a rental house in Phnom Penh, right near the rubbish dump, for $230 per month! We have attached pictures of the house and the children for you to see!
Our plan now is for each of the rubbish children and disabled students to have a "friend" in Australia to help them in whatever way they can (for example, funding “safety packs” or a pair of shoes or cartons of soy milk, etc) whenever they have a bit of spare change. “Friends” will be able to communicate with their child via email whenever they want.
Our dream is for the centre to be a safe place for the children. Eventually we will be able to offer them first aid, something to eat and safety packs to reduce the harm associated with what they have to do as well as provide SOMEONE WHO CARES. The centre will be a place that makes the children feel protected and safe. In the future we hope to be able to have a couple of sofas where they can rest as well as provide them with clothes (which we will take over each time we visit), books, etc.
We really want them to feel that it is THEIR place, to meet THEIR needs, an attractive, warm place for them to come. Whilst, there clearly are educational objectives for the centre, a sense of humanity and warmth has to prevail! This place is for them!!! Even if some of the children don’t want or are unable to study, they will still be welcome and if and when we have food and other things available, these will always be given to them. We want them to know they are all always WELCOME!!!
We will send pictures of the students with their profiles as soon as they come into the house and our dream is to match every single one of them with a Food4Everyone “friend”!
So as you can see our need for help is now MORE DESPERATE THAN EVER!!!
We are BEGGING for all of you to participate in this new project!!!
No matter how small your contribution is, for these children it all makes a HUGE difference!!!
How about a raffle at your workplace? Please let us know as soon as possible how you can help.
Regards,
Margarita Parrish

Hi Everyone,
I am forwarding you the latest email that I received from Borith of KYSD in Phnom Penh.
As you will see, the situation for the "garbage children" is deplorable and absolutely intolerable!
Food4Everyone will not allow this situation to go on and will continue to work as hard as we possibly can to try to ease as much suffering and to help make whatever difference we can for these children.
If you can offer help in any way we urge you to contact us by email or
phone on 02 4737 3400.

Subject: The Fact of Dumpsite in Cambodia
|
Around 10,000 people live in the adjoining slums and most, including children, seek a meagre income picking through trash at the dump. With empty rice sacks and metal hooks in hand, most are searching for tin cans, plastic bottles and other recyclable goods which can be sold for around 10 cents per kilo. Garbage trucks constantly roll through dumping trash while people swarm around looking for goods they can sell before the bulldozer quickly shovels everything over the edge. There were countless children, few people wearing shoes let alone masks or gloves and houses constructed right on top of the smoking mountains of trash. Everything ends up here, including dangerous medical waste and poisonous chemicals. This place is the closest thing to hell on earth.

3rd April 2009
Andrew has just arrived back from visiting the Windy Village as well as the Thai / Burmese border, to where we will be travelling at the end of April to see how we can help. As soon as we receive his update we will let you know all the news!
In the meantime, we are currently focusing on our Easter fundraising projects. The Easter chicken gift cards are now available. Simply email or call us on 02 4737 3400 to order (payments can be made by cheque, cash or credit card).
We are also running our Easter raffle (a beautiful basket overflowing with a very, very generous amount of chocolate Easter eggs of every type… which we stare longingly at everyday!!!).
What can you do to help over Easter???
How about holding an Easter raffle? You could ask friends, family, sporting teams, club members, schools, preschools, etc to each donate a chocolate egg and then make your own Easter basket to raffle.
You could host a Hot-Cross Bun morning tea / Easter party!
(They now even come in choc-chip and mocha varieties!!! Mmmmmmmm!!!)
Again you could ask friends, family, etc to donate a packet (or bake!) Hot-Cross Buns for the morning tea / Easter party and then each make a donation to participate.
Or, if you have any other fun fundraising ideas of your own let us know…
We will try anything!!!
Have a great weekend and thank you once again for your ongoing support!!!
Regards,
Rebecca

Hi Everyone,
Once again the Food4Everyone Trivia Night was
FANTASTICALLY SUCCESSFUL!!!
We really want to thank ALL the helpers for ALL their work both on the night and “behind the scenes”!!! Without you the trivia night would not happen. You cannot imagine how much we appreciate your help!
We would also like to give a special thank you to all the wonderful students who helped out on the night!
You guys were GREAT!!!
And of course, thank you to everyone who attended!!!
Without you there would be no trivia night so thank you SO MUCH for all your support!!!
The success of the trivia night means that we are now able to begin helping to make a difference on the Thai / Burmese border where conditions are said to be even more deplorable than in the Windy Village and Kampong Cham. We will be travelling there at the end of April to assess what the greatest needs are and from there we will begin to offer whatever help we can, which will hopefully include replicating what we have already done in the Windy Village.
It’s 2009 and no-one should have to be living in the horrific conditions that these people are.
As we have said before, we now know the formula and have the supporting evidence to be able to make a HUGE difference to the lives of people living in extreme poverty:
LOTS OF US EACH DOING A LITTLE BIT!
With this information, there is no excuse not to do something!!!
We would like to express how eternally grateful we are for all your continued support. It is people like you who take the time to read these emails, attend our trivia nights, make monthly contributions and so much, much more that keep us going and make it possible for us to do the work we do.
We will never be able to thank you enough for providing us with the opportunity to be able to replicate our work in another desperate little corner of this world.
This is HUGE and we could never have done it alone!
Thank you so much!
Regards,
Rebecca

20.02.09
Hi Everyone!
I can’t believe it, it’s been weeks since I’ve put pen to paper (I am actually writing this in the train and Rebecca will e-mail it for me later!... Thanks Bek!). So Christmas seems a million years ago and we continue to be blessed by your support, help and kind words of encouragement (we also continue to be blessed with 4 seasons in one week just to add to the spice of life!).
As you know, we are presently planning for the Trivia Night and once again it’s been FANTASTIC! I think we are almost fully booked but hey, we can always squeeze you in a little corner (when you realise that one ticket on the night feeds 50 people you probably wouldn’t mind being put in the broom closet!… I promise we won’t!).
The farm is also going fantastically well! If you don’t already have a copy of the DVD please call us and we’ll send one to you.
We are already looking at new areas of need (whilst maintaining all our projects in Kampong Cham). Heartland is currently setting up another mission in Chang Rai, near the Thai / Burmese boarder where conditions are apparently terrible. Poverty Aid 4 Cambodia (thank you Rinna and Lee, you guys are angels!) have already contributed dozens of blankets.
As I write this we are planning our next trip to Cambodia at the end of April when we also plan to visit the new mission in Chang Rai and travel to the Burmese border to assess the needs and hopefully begin to help. We are thinking wells, seeds, trees, etc. We are thinking anything that will ease suffering and will also lead to healthy brains, skills acquisition and hope. Do you have any ideas??? Please give us a call if you have (suggestions make the world a better place).
We will probably see lots of you at the Trivia Night. Remember, the more prizes we have to give away the better the night will be and the more money we will make so if you have any vouchers or prizes to donate we’ll take them!
I am going away for a few weeks but the moment we have more news Rebecca will let you know!
Have a great weekend,
All our thanks,
Margarita Parrish

Hi everyone,
You cannot believe how excited we all are!!! Andrew Cook, from Heartland International, has just sent us the DVD of the F4E Farmlet and it is FANTASTIC!!!
I know I’m always saying this but this time it is AWESOME, AMAZING and UNBELIEVABLE!!!
TALK ABOUT THE IMPACT OF LOTS OF LITTLE BITS OF HELP!!! You just wait and see what the farm looks like after all the “Christmas animals” have gone in. As I said before, DAIRY FARMERS EAT YOUR HEART OUT!!!
Now we are dying for you to see the DVD (and thank you Andrew from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to create it!).
Because of your incredible generosity (at Christmas time you were just beyond belief!) THE FARM LOOKS AS INCREDIBLE AS IT DOES!!! Andrew says we are close to self-sufficiency now and that soon we will grow all we need! We still need to buy bags of rice and most of what we give to the Aids Ward so it isn’t perishable, such as noodle packs and milk poppers (so they have food in between drop offs). Still, this means we can continue to identify needs and continue to strategise against poverty.
WE ARE SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!
Now, back to the DVD, one of our wonderful friends (thank you so much Donna and Mick) has said that he can upload it onto our website as he did with the “Launch” DVD. We will let you know as soon as this is done. (By the way, have you seen the one of the launch that is already on there? If not, let us know and we will post it to you straight away).
Anyway, have to go, too much excitement for one day!!!
Have a FANTASTIC day and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Regards,
Margarita Parrish
P.S. Andrew, what happened to the cow???

Hi Everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
2008 was a fantastic year for F4E and thanks to you we achieved FANTASTIC results!!! Well, I've had a dream (and we all now know that with a little effort dreams can become reality) and in my dream 2009 was even better!
Well, I have spoken to Andrew who has just come back and he tells me that because of the farm we can now divert funds into other areas of need whilst maintaining all our existing programmes. As I write I still do not have the new budget but I am tremendously excited about the possibilities that lay ahead because of our 'savings'.
As I've written before, Heartland is establishing a mission in North Thailand near the Burmese border. We've been told that conditions there are deplorable and because of the conflict there is little aid. Our next trip to the Windy Village is now planned for April so we'll investigate the possibilities for helping there. At this stage we're thinking of simple strategies such as planting fruit trees in schools and building wells in the local area so that at least the residents have access (eventually) to healthy fruit and fresh water. Once there's water they can plant seeds, etc, we can supply tools and training and hopefully begin to break the cycle of poverty which will then lead to self sustainability and HOPE!!!!!!!
I have also spoken in the past about East Timor where we have also lent a hand in the past. A trip is also planned there for 2009 so we'll let you know. Andrew also tells me that he may go to the Philippines where, in some parts, the conditions are horrific.
I've told Andrew that F4E is right behind him and that whenever there's an area of need where suffering can be eased WE'LL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE WE CAN! I know that it seems too simple to be true but it is SIMPLE. Now with years of experience, I know that whenever we've identified an area where help was needed and I have asked, I have been inundated with assistance. It is amazing how much people will do when they're told and they know that their money will get there (and they see graphic evidence both of the problem and of the solution). So the long and the short of this story is, the pressure is back on for us to keep on going because although we can all be very proud of the little corner of this world that we have already improved, there are many many more little corners to tackle. However, I do not feel daunted about this, I feel extremely excited and have a huge sense of privilege that WE are in a position to do something about it!
Now, then... our next Fundraising venture...
THE F4E ANNUAL TRIVIA NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I promise you this is shaping up to once again be fantastic and a lot of fun. We only have limited tables and quite a few people have already expressed interest so please please please ring us on 0247-373400 and book your table NOW or you will not get one....ah yes, the trivia night is on the 28th March at the Leichardt Town Hall (the best in Sydney................and yes, once again they've waived our fees................how good is that???). As you know, the trivia night's success also depends on our silent auctions and the prizes that we can give so could you (again) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask anyone you know who is in the position to do so to donate items, vouchers, ANYTHING etc for the night. All donations are gratefully acknowledged on the night of course!!!
Well, at this stage, this is probably all (phewwwwwwwwwwww you sigh), so enjoy the rest of the summer and once again THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH.
Warmest wishes for 2009
Margarita Parrish
PS - Our lovely 'Knitting Brigade' has run out of wool for the 'death blankets" for the Aids Ward so if anyone has any spare we would be very grateful for it! (just in case you've forgotten or have recently joined F4E, we provide blankets to the Aids patients of Kampong Chan Hospital so they can spend their final days a bit more comfortably and knowing that someone in this world cared enough to knit a blanket for them)
PS2 – We continue to receive receipts at the office for some of you beautiful people who donate and have not given us your addresses, so if this is you please call or email us.

3rd December 2008:
Dear Food4Everyone supporters,
Please find attached appeal for help for 2009!
I’d be very grateful if you could forward this email to anyone you know who may also wish to make a difference.
Warm wishes, Margarita Parrish (On behalf of Food4Everyone):
FOOD4EVERYONE 2009 APPEAL!
Food4Everyone was set up in April 2006, and since then has used the infrastructure of a mission (Heartland International) in Kampong Cham, Cambodia, to set up a variety of food distribution programs.
In reality, we are a small group of friends (with a steadily increasing number of supporters) who believe that we have a global responsibility to those in need of basic necessities. We also believe that together and bit by bit we can make a big difference. Our many programs in Cambodia are a testimony to our beliefs.
By using a variety of fundraising strategies (Yes… mostly begging for money!!!) we have been able to provide nutritious meals for 300 children, 30 elderly people as well as a growing number of young mums and bubs three times per week in the “Windy Village” on the outskirts of Kampong Cham (this makes it approximately 30,000 meals per year). We also supply 32 families living in abject poverty in a slum area of the Meekong River with weekly allocated rice portions and diet staples as well as parcels of nutritious food to patients at the AIDS Ward of the Kampong Cham Hospital twice per week.
At this stage we are extremely excited because we have acquired land and established our own F4E farmlet and hope to produce food for all our projects (and of course training in sustainable agricultural practices to the locals so they too can become self-sufficient). Our success means that not only can we maintain our programs in Kampong Cham but we can now move to needier areas.
The mission to which we are attached is also going to establish itself in Chang Rei and begin work on the Thai / Burmese border. We too are planning to go there and assess the situation. We have been told that conditions there are even more deplorable because of ongoing political tensions but we are ready to help out!
After two and a half years we have learned the formula… “lots of us doing a tiny bit” changes a little corner of the world. So simple really! So, we are ready and willing to start again. People often find it difficult to believe but all it takes is lots of people to give us their spare change once in a while!
You would be amazed at what a difference we can make with spare change (lots of spare change makes thousands!). Last year for instance, we built a well, bought tools, soil and seeds as well as training and for approximately $4000 we provided the means for the prisoners of Kampong Cham Medium Security Prison to turn approximately an acre of land (used as a rubbish dump) into a thriving garden which now feeds the prisoners with healthy vegetables and herbs (they now even have their own duck pen which provides eggs and vital, life-saving protein!). You may not know this but these prisoners were not fed by the prison before as they relied on relatives for food (and some have their children in there with them). These prisoners now get fed and have skills in gardening. They have a sense of satisfaction and pride because they can help themselves and others (yes they are “giving back” by contributing 10% of their produce to our other food programs!). How about this for effective rehabilitation! And all this was achieved with half the proceeds of our 2007 Trivia Night (ie; a group of us having a ball!)
In the Aids ward of the Kampong Cham Hospital spare change (for example, the difference of our friends drinking one less cappuccino ($2.50) per week) means the difference between dying with dignity or dying with the added complication of starvation.
In the Windy Village we now provide over 30,000 meals per year which means the arrestation of malnutrition in many cases (hopefully) which in turn means many more healthy brains and Cambodia could certainly do with that!
As noted previously, we now know exactly what it takes. It takes you helping us a tiny bit! With added help there is no stopping us. We now know exactly how to make a difference and there is a lot of difference to be made in the world. We are the fortunate ones and we believe that we have a social responsibility to help if we can. If you share our belief and also want to be responsible for making a tiny corner of this world a better place please join us. For further information you can visit our website: www.food4everyone.net.au and also download our DVD or of course phone us on 02 4737 3400 or 0404 477 858.
So please, become one of us and join forces in raising money and resources to help human beings living in extreme poverty.
Regards, Margarita Parrish (On behalf of Food4Everyone)
______________________________________________________
5th November 2008: Hi Everyone,
No words can express how we feel.
We reached for the stars and made it!
We could not have done so without your help and for that, we and the kids in the Windy Village who from now on will have a reliable supply of healthy food available to them, will forever be grateful to you!!!
So, as their reliance on us decreases and they now have the means to eat and the resources to learn how to create their own sustainable food production programs, we will start getting ready to move on to more needy pastures.
We are now armed with skills we never had before we are almost ready to improve another tiny corner of the world!
We now know the formula... lots of us... all giving a little bit... regularly.... and all bound together now with the evidence that WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
How awesome is that?

30th October 2008
Hi everyone it has been another extremely busy last couple of weeks. I can not thank Jan, Helen and Victoria enough for the amazing success at the last market which was held at Windsor. They managed to make $300 by selling all the bits and pieces which you guys have sent to us in the last couple of months. This is awesome as it represents 600 meals. Talking of bits of pieces Helen has asked me to ask you for any donations of remnants of cotton fabric so that she can make Funky Monkeys to sell at the markets.
On the same weekend as that of the markets we also held our October beg-a-thon which once again was a tremendous success. We managed to raise just over $800 in a couple of hours. That was fantastic and money very much needed at this stage, particularly given the fact that as we all know (not wanting to bring global economy doom into the equation) the Aussie dollar has gone down in value by a third which means that we now need to make a third more money (too hard to think about this one at the moment).
If the last month was busy, the next one promises to be even more so. As we write this we are getting ready for the Business Women’s Expo next Saturday at the Leichhardt Town Hall. We are hoping to see lot and lots of you there. The day promises to be a very interesting one, with Lee bringing Cambodian delicacies such as spring rolls and sweets. There is no entry fee, just one gold coin entry donation. At this stage I think we have almost 20 stalls, representing various women’s businesses ranging from handmade jewellery to perfume to artwork (and much much more). Helen has coordinated the entire expo, and I will never be able to thank her enough for that. She has spent hours and hours contacting people, securing stall holders, organising publicity (a thanks also to Shane, Publicity Officer from Leichhardt Council, who generously gave us his contacts in the area and who promoted the Expo on our behalf).
A BIG thanks once again to Carolyn without whom we would not have a hall once again at the Council in which to have an expo. As you know this is the first time that Food 4 Everyone has had an expo, so we are yet to see whether this is a fund rasing strategy which proves to be successful. Having said that, with a membership of over 300, whether we succeed or not depends very much on you. Please come along just for an hour or so and let your friends know. As I said before it’s entry by gold coin, and every single cent made on the day will go towards our food distribution programs in Cambodia.
You may also want to take this opportunity to purchase one farm animal for yourself or to give as a present for Christmas this year. In our last update we enclosed the price list (call us if you’re interested). The animals will be for sale and sponsorship at the Expo (or if you are interested and can not make it to the expo please call the office directly).
Our next big event for November is the ‘Poverty Aid Disco’ coordinated by Rinna and Lee Ly. We had a similar event last May and it was extremely successful with over 400 people attending. We have enclosed the flyer for this event again.
Before I forget, Helen has also designed Food 4 Everyone bags that will be sold at the Business expo on Saturday. If we sell these bags for $8.50 (picture attached) it means that each bag will have fed 10 children in Cambodia. I have been told that $8.50 is probably too much, but given that we have already outlaid $3.50 per bag, at this stage we will accept any donations, so that we can feed as many children there as we can.
Also a big thank you to all the people who are helping make both the dance and the Expo a reality. I also always forget to thank the Sweeney family for so generously giving up their time and resources to keep us supplied with our very colourful and beautiful pamphlets. We are very grateful.
Having said all of that, I am waiting for Andrew to come back from Cambodia tomorrow and the moment he does and gives me an update on what’s happening in the farm I will let everyone know. I can not wait!!
Hope you have a fantastic week and we’ll see you at the expo and if not, at the dance.
We have had a number of people ask about the price of animals for the farmlet. They are as follows:
· Chickens: $6.25 · Ducks: $5.00 · Pigs: $70
· Cows: $500, $700, $1000 (depending on size)
Please give us a couple of weeks notice if organising Christmas Gift Certificates.
Thanks, Margarita Parrish

Breaking News!!!
Bede Polding College this very morning donated Food4Everyone $2000!!!
YEY! YEY! YEY!
We are still in shock and cannot thank Marissa Scopellitic and her helpers enough!!
Because of this amazing donation we now have enough money for the next 4000 meals which frees existing funds for desperately needed farming animals and equipment.
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

Hi Everyone,
As you all know Maggie is currently away in Cambodia and I was going to wait until her return to let her send an update email but the last few weeks have just been too exciting to wait!!!
We have had such a fantastic couple of weeks with fundraising! Firstly, we raised almost $1,000 between the Bric-a-Brac (thanks Jan and Doreen!) and the begging day (thanks Arlene and Tracey!).
We had the Poverty Aid 4 Cambodia dinner which was WONDERFUL! Poverty Aid raised over $10,000! How good is that?!!! We were so pleased with this result and can't thank Rinna and Lee Li enough! They both worked so hard to make the night a success and I have to say with over 500 people in attendnace they succeeded!
On Wednesday night we had Bede Live, a concert held by Bede Polding College with all money raised going to F4E. I have not heard how much we raised yet but with almost 700 people there I'm sure we must have done well! I have to thank Marrissa from year 12 so much for her efforts. She and the SRC organised the entire night themselves. The talent was fantastic and everyone had a great time.
And if all of that isn't exciting enough, it gets even better! We now officially have three Gold Sponsor Businesses as part of the 'We Care' network! We are so so so excited that this idea is taking off!
A HUGE Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! to Arif from Q Finacial, Robert Standen from Standen and Bourke Physiotherapy and Dr Susan Owen.
How GREAT is all of that!!! Maggie will be so pleased when she returns from Cambodia to hear such positive news.
I can't wait to hear all about how the projects are going when she returns.
Thank you all so much for your ongoing support!
Rebecca

“Food 4 Everyone”
2008 URGENT APPEAL
FOR MONTHLY CONTRIBUTORS!!
Can you believe it? It’s been 10 months since our 2007 Countathon.
You may recall that then our objective was to raise $2000 in regular monthly contributions so that we could ensure regularity and sustainability of our food distribution programs both in the Windy Village, where we now provide approximately 30,000 meals per year and in the AIDS ward at the Kampong Cham Hospital, where we have continued to provide food parcels to all 30 patients twice weekly.
We then hoped that we may achieve our objective by having approximately 200 people contribute $10 per month. What actually happened was that instead we were offered monthly contributions by 30 people who all together contribute over $900 per month. How amazing is that???
Our objective for 2008 remains. We need $2000 to maintain our objective. So once again
We beg your help!!!
Just $10 per month would be wonderful!!!
For less than the cost of a coffee per week (remembering your $2.50 is tax deductible) you can be the reason as to why children can now eat regularly and as to why people can die with dignity.
This is reality!
You can make a difference if you choose to!
One less coffee, lives are saved!
Please fill the enclosed form NOW and give it to your family, friends and colleagues too. This is everyone’s problem and everyone’s responsibility!
We have started to count and are waiting for your fax now! We will keep you posted so you can see how we are going. (The F4E Count-a-thon is on!).
P.S. Of course, donations of more (much more!) than $10 will also be considered!
P.S. Our latest DVD and pamphlet is now available. Please contact us if you would like any material.

MARCH 2008
Exciting News Break!
The Kampong Cham Prison has distributed it's first crop to the 'Windy Village' Feeding Project!!!
The prisoners harvested 20 kilograms of produce to contribute to the food distribution program!!!
This is such FANTASTIC news!!!
Also, our first 'Poverty Aid for Cambodia' project is complete! Now 913 little old ladies have their very own sarongs! And the villager's have wells so they can now have access to water!!!
How GREAT is that???
We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Rinna Ly (co-ordinator of Poverty Aid for Cambodia)!!! Without Rinna's help our project in the Takeo province would not have been possible. Thank you so much!
Finally, once again we would like to thank you, our supporters. Without you none of our work would be possible!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Easter 2008
Hi everyone,
Once again I have so much to tell you that I don’t really know where to start! We have had an extremely hectic last couple of weeks but as usual lately it is all FANTASTIC!
Last Saturday the 15th March we had one of our begging days and although this was not one of our most successful ones we still managed to make over $400 and Tracey Frawley once again wins the prize of “chief beggar” (I always collect the least amount of money probably because I spend most of my time talking! he,he,he!).
You may recall that I told you a few weeks ago that we had been chosen by the House of Commodores as their charity. On Sunday 16th March they had their annual Hot Rod Show and we had a great day with them. The long and the short of that story however is that we collected a massive $1500 which included a donation of $500 from Hawkesbury Valley Holden (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!). The money raised came from gold coin entry donations as well as from the sale of a number of raffles. People were extremely generous and once again it almost brought tears to my eyes to see the number of people who chose to give us a note when all that was expected from them was a gold coin donation. A HUGE thanks to the organisers of this event, Nada and Joe Jurjevic, as well as to the many Food4Everyone helpers who gave us their Sunday and who worked extremely hard in what turned out to be a very hot day.
Our most exciting news however is the collaborative work which we are doing with Rinna Ly and his team in Cabramatta. You may also recall that a few weeks ago I told you that we had been approached by some members of the Sydney Cambodian community to help them do some work in Cambodia. Since then, I have liaised extensively with Rinna who as a consequence has now become the coordinator for our new project “Poverty Aid for Cambodia”. Our association with Rinna and his team is amazing in that it allows direct identification with areas of poverty in provincial Cambodia. Essentially, Rinna who has extensive contacts in the Khmer community in Cabramatta is able to pinpoint exact areas of extreme need in Cambodia. Our very first project is the building of six wells in the Takeo province which apparently is near the Vietnamese border. People in this particular village are desperate for assistance and they have also requested bags of rice. A team from Heartland including our three agricultural students attended this week to organise a village meeting and to discuss exactly what the needs are. Fortunately, because of the success of our fundraising over the last few months we are now in a great position to meet the needs there as well as to continue to fund all our existing programs. The very favourable exchange rate at the moment is also of great assistance as the US dollar is the dominant currency in Cambodia.
Whilst our project in the Takeo province is our first project for “Poverty Aid in Cambodia”, we plan for our “Poverty Aid” work to be ongoing as more and more villages are identified from people who have direct links in that community. Our first plan will be to identify the next village, then to send a “Food4Everyone” team to assess needs further and then to implement a plan of action.
Clearly, in order to continue our work in Cambodia we need to increase our revenue. This is where once again you become a faithful helper. The very first fundraising project for “Poverty Aid” is a dinner/dance in Cabramatta on the 17th May 2008. We are organising tables of 10 people and ticket prices are $30 each which includes a 6 course meal. This night represents a perfect opportunity for “Food4Everyone” supporters to meet Cambodian people and to have a great time while once again contributing to a great cause. The Cambodian community is also very pleased with the assistance which is being provided by “Food4Everyone” supporters and they too would very much like to meet us. As noted, tickets are $30 each and are for sale at the office. Tables are of 10 but of course you may just choose to come alone or with a couple of friends. Whatever you decide to do, DO NOT MISS OUT! This will be a GREAT night! Unfortunately, unless you buy the tickets beforehand we will not be able to accept money at the door as the restaurant owner needs to be paid before the actual night so bookings and payments prior to the night are essential. This night will provide you all with an opportunity to meet Rinna Ly and his team who as I said have just joined “Food4Everyone”.
As you will see I have enclosed some of the pictures from the Hot Rod Show and once again wish to thank everybody at the House of Commodore Club for their incredible help and their amazing fundraising efforts prior to the day which led to us having so many wonderful raffle prizes which brought in so much money. As I was saying to Nada, if the quotes that have been given to us for wells of $75USD each are correct it means that because of their help “Poverty Aid” will be able to build 20 wells! HOW AMAZING IS THAT!!! Some of the stories that we hear include villagers having to walk up to five kilometres every morning before they can access water to wash or to cook for the day. One well would stop all of that.
Thank you once again for being part of the growing group of “Food4Everyone” supporters and have a lovely Easter!
Regards,
Maggie and team

Trivia Night, February, 2008
Hi Everyone,
I cannot believe it, the Trivia Night is all over now and I have finally a bit of time to let you know all the exciting things that have happened or are about to happen. Before I do that, however, I would like to thank all my helpers without whom the Trivia Night would not have been possible. I would also like to acknowledge the generous contributions of those few who could not attend but who still paid for tickets 'in absentia”. You guys make me want to cry sometimes!!! And for those of you who were there, what a sight, eh?? Not a spare seat!!!
HOW GOOD WAS THAT???
Talking of good (not good... GREAT!) I have enclosed the pics Andrew brought of the Jail (remember F4E funded a well, seeds, tools, training, etc) as well as pics of the land when we first saw it only about 9 months ago. What a difference, eh?? What was no more than a huge rubbish dump is now a thriving garden. The prisoners have become so excited that they have planted things all over the jail and can't stop now!!! Not only are they supplementing their own (very poor) diet but they are about to share their crops with our other feeding programmes. I just loooooove that!!!
I have also enclosed a pic of the little farm house. It is almost finished now. Andrew tells me the next stage is to fence the land so that those awful cows stop eating the banana trees (no more jokes about banana milkshakes please!!!). He tells me that they are also about to plant a certain type of shrub to feed the goats (didn't I tell you we are going to have goats???). Apparently the goats need their own house. I will ask the boys to plant lots of Mango trees. I just adore the thought of F4E taking huge baskets of juicy mangoes to the Windy Village and to the Aids Ward. And of course, all of you cow and pig sponsors out there do not think we have frittered your money away. The moment they are purchased (and then cooked) I will send pics (that's bad!). In any case I will keep you posted about everything that happens. It is just so exciting I cannot wait to go back and check everything (early June! yey yey yey!!!).
Finally, March is proving to be a great month. The beggathon is on the 15th then on the 16th we'll be at the Colyton Hotel for the Hawkesbury Holden Hot Rod Show as we are their charity. Last year we had a great time and this year we even plan to have our own raffles. Finally, last Wednesday we met with members of the Cambodian Community in Sydney who have sought our help so I am very much looking forward to working with them!!! (More on this very soon).
So as you can see, it's all great stuff. We are making a huge difference and of course it is all because of your ongoing help and support!!!
HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEK
Margarita Parrish

January 2008
Hi everyone,
We have been allocated the dates for this year's Saturday Begathons at Pitt Street Mall and would be grateful if you could write them in your diaries as soon as possible. The Begathons continue to be one of our most successful fundraisers and this year with our new projects we are going to need as much help as we can get!
The dates are as follows:
February 16th
March 15th
April 12th
May 17th
June 14th
July 12th
August 9th
September 13th
October 18th
November 15th
December 6th and December 13th
At this stage there are only two of us for the 16th February so if you are available to help out that would be fantastic. We are also going to need lots of helpers for Saturday 15th March as we have a second fundraising event on Sunday 16th March!
As you know, we are finalising tables for the Trivia Night so we would be more than grateful if you could possibly let us know whether you are coming and how many tables you may need. We realise that this is asking a lot, however, if you are able to make payments for your table beforehand this would be greatly appreciated as it will save us dealing with large amounts of cash on the night. If not, then that’s ok as well.
Please note that the venue this year is Leichhardt Town Hall not Parramatta. The time again is 7.00 pm and tickets are $20 each.
We have attached a flyer that you may wish to distribute to those interested.

Happy New Year 2008
HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I can't believe that Xmas has come and gone! I have so much to tell you that I don't even know where to begin!!!
Firstly, it's all FANTASTIC news and I have so many thanks to give once again that no doubt I will forget someone (sorry if I do).
The most important thing is that following our return, the “River Food and Aid Relief Project” has been launched and established. Because of your generosity there are now a further 26 homes who have a weekly supply of food. As I explained before Xmas, the aim is to provide monthly supplies of staples such as rice, weekly supplies of protein based foods such as dried fish and sausages and to get the slum dwellers to grow their own greens to supplement their diets (remember we asked Andrew and Chenna to get pots, seeds, etc).
The Windy village of course is going great, the supplies to the Aids ward continue, the prisoners are now in a position where they can share some of their own “prison grown” goodies and I'm dying to talk to Andrew to see what is happening in our own farmlet. The moment I know, I'll of course let you know (next time probably in two weeks or so as I'm going away).
We have another 3 monthly contributors bringing our monthly total to $875 so hopefully with a bit of luck (some may say with a HUGE amount of luck) we may reach our objective and have another $$$ by the end of the year! So once again if you know anybody who may be interested in helping out, $10 per month is all we need. This will feed another 20 kids! F4E history is proving that what really helps is lots of us doing lots of little bits!
So whilst we may have been a bit slow in attracting monthly sponsors we have been extremely lucky in other ways and F4E has much to be grateful for. Firstly, we have continued to receive help from a number of schools and I continue to be amazed by the students' passion and willingness to help out (Thanks Bede Poulding, Sydney Boys Tech, St George High, Kogarah High).
HUGEST thanks to Phillip Roumeliotis who nominated us to Kogarah Council as part of an Anti-Poverty Campaign and won us $1850!!!!! That is more or less 4000 meals!!!!!
THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS
And yes, another HUGE thanks to Leichhardt Council who have waived the rental hall fee for our next Trivia Night. The mayor, Caroline Allen was so lovely she even asked if she may be able to help out by organising some people from the Council to attend. I said yes of course, so hopefully they'll be there!!! Talking of which... WE NEED YOU!!!
We have 25 tables to fill, 10 people per table (it's okay if you have less). Bring your own picnic basket and have a great night!!! Or if you know anybody who can contribute a prize for the night this will be very much appreciated (eg; restaurant, beauty vouchers). The date is SATURDAY 23RD FEBRUARY 2008, 7.00pm at the LEICHHARDTCOUNCILTOWN HALL.
We'll soon send a flyer for this event but need you to keep this date and begin to ask a few friends. For those of you who have already organised a table, my everlasting thanks.
We continue to be asked about doing Duke of Edinburgh Award in Kampong Cham and at this stage we're awaiting to see if enough interest still exists. I think the tentative time is May but as I said I still haven't heard from anyone this year. I guess we'll soon know once school goes back. Just ring me if you are interested although nothing is conclusive at this stage.
Finally, we are desperately seeking helpers to fundraise. Jan Cunningham who came with us on our last visit to the WindyVillage has been tirelessly working on this since her return (thanks Woolworths Richmond!!!) but she needs help and it would be great to have our own fundraising subcommittee. If you would like to help out with this please contact our office on 02 4737 3400.
Have a great week,
Margarita Parrish

URGENT APPEAL!!
200 PEOPLE, $10 PER MONTH!!
We need 200people to donate a minimum of $10 per month just to meet the basic cost of sustaining the children’s feeding project (3 meals per week) and the AIDS ward’s program (2 meals per week). For “Food4Everyone” (F4E) to be able to plan for the dignity food program and to keep the village feeding program going, we need consistent, ongoing help from you.
We beg your help!!!
For less than the cost of a coffee per week (remembering your $2.50 is tax deductible) you can be the reason as to why children can now eat regularly and as to why people can die with dignity.
No more excuses!
This is reality!
You can make a difference if you choose to!
One less coffee, lives are saved!
Please fill the enclosed form NOW and give it to your family, friends and colleagues too. This is everyone’s problem and everyone’s responsibility! As things stand now, we have 9 monthly contributors. To achieve our current target we need another 191!
We have started to count and are waiting for your fax now! We will keep you posted each week so you can see how we are going. (The weekly F4E Count-a-thon is on).
P.S. Of course, donations of more (much more!) than $10 will also be considered!
P.S. Our latest DVD is now available. Please contact us if you would like a copy.

Hi everyone,
I do realise that it is not the end of the week, however, after some very successful few weeks and a lot of work here at the office, we’ve decided to have a break for the next few weeks.
As you can see, we have two new contributors, (thank you very much beautiful people!) bringing the total to $$$.
As I explained last week, we had a great Begathon on the 15th where we raised $775!!! We were also invited by Narrimba College of TAFE to give a presentation to their welfare/community students and they too gave us a very generous donation. Finally, as you all know, last Sunday, 23rd September, we held our annual “Picnic and Walkathon Against Empty Tummies”. Despite having to compete with the footy we made a staggering $750!!! We are delighted with this result, but plan to do even better next year now that we have more of an idea!
As I said, we will be giving you a break from e-mails for the next couple of weeks and hope to catch up then. In the meanwhile, we are as hopeful as ever that our number of contributors will continue to increase. As I said last week, if any of you out there have been thinking of contributing for a while but have not quite gotten to it yet, this is your chance.
Things at the office, however, will remain unchanged and should you want to talk to us about anything at all please give us a call on: 02 4737 3400 or 0404 477 858.
Thank you again and again!!!

Begathon Helpers, July 2007
Hi Everyone
Our next “begathon” is the 21st of July. I am giving everyone plenty of advance warning because I am desperate for your help!
As you know for a number of different reasons (eg lack of interest, rain, etc) it would have been 3 months since we last fundraised. As you also know F4E has now launched a number of other projects and ongoing support is now more important than ever if we are to meet our objectives. If we do not meet our objectives people die... as simple as that!
All I’m asking is between 2 and 3 hours of your time (less if you absolutely must do something else). When there are a few of us it can be quite fun and a larger group gives us greater credibility (and therefore more money). I was thinking that it'd be also fun to catch up and maybe have a bite to eat together afterwards (afternoon tea or dinner???). I really want to let you all know about the trip and the new projects. I also want to talk about the massive difference that we can make with your help. Andrew did a quick calculation the other day for the new DVD and worked out that we have now provided more than 36 thousand meals.
As you know, we have also already sponsored kids through college, bought a farmlet, equipment and so on...
Since coming back I am absolutely driven by our new project 'Dignity Food'. Whilst, the thought that kids go needlessly hungry drives me to distraction , the thought (and very real reality) that children, men and women are dying starving (also needlessly) drives me to desperation. I know that with a bit of help from you we can also save a lot of suffering in the 'death ward' of KampongChamHospital.
Please mark the 21st of July in your calendars.
With more thanks than you can imagine
Maggie on behalf of Food4Everyone
P.S. Remember that we are updating our F4E Database and need more contacts. Could you please talk to a couple of your friends and ask them if it'd be okay for you to give us their addresses. Please e-mail Rebecca at the office or me at home as soon as possible with this information.

May 2007
As you all know we have just recently come back from Cambodia where we have established a number of other programs. In particular we are now in desperate need of help for the patients in the Aids ward, mostly children and women, whose Aids condition is being complicated by malnutrition. We have also launched “Freedom Food” AND NEED TO COME UP WITH approximately $2000 now for tools to get the prison land ready and will need another $2000 for the well soon (no water no food).
For F4E to be able to meet our growing demands we need to expand a little bit and broaden our database so that we can reach a wider audience. As you know, our success so far has been due to “lots of you helping a little bit”.
Having said that, we would be extremely grateful if you could all tell a couple of your friends about us and give us their e-mail addresses so that we can also reach them and hopefully get some help from them as well.
As you well know by now, any form of help is invaluable to us. A small donation each month, a raffle, a F4E morning tea, a moneybox at your workplace, unwanted items for us to sell, “begging time”... and yes!, we have now settled on the farmlet and need pig, cow and goat sponsors (for $5.00 per month you can sponsor any of these animals... chooks are cheaper!).
We need to update the database NOW given the desperate plight of these people. Please give some thought to this issue as there are many people out there who want to help out.
Thank you so very much again.
Margarita Parrish, On behalf of F4E
P.S. We are just beginning to organise our next Humanitarian Tour to Kampong Cham via Saigon and Phnom Penh. As our number of places is very limited we need you to express your interest now. Approximate cost will be $2700 for 8 days for airfares, accommodation and most meals.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Hi everybody,
Hope you are all feeling refreshed after the break and ready to lend a hand again.
Thanks to all of you, the end of last year was tremendous and Rebecca managed to bank a further $5000 for F4E! In essence this means that at this stage we have enough money to buy both blocks of land in the WindyVillage (when ever and if ever they become available) and enough money for the whole project for the next few months.
As I said last year, there are many more goals that we now have for the WindyVillage which include establishing an outreach feeding program for the street kids and growing enough food to feed the patients at the local hospital. Unfortunately, the latter can not happen until we are finally able to grow our own food. Andrew tells me that negotiations are still underway but, as he reminds me all the time, things can be slow in Cambodia and we need to have patience.
I will be going up to Brisbane at the end of February and will have a chance to talk to Andrew about everything.
In the meanwhile we have many more ideas and lots to do.
Firstly, we now have the “begging” dates for the rest of the year. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a date for February and as such, our first “begging” date will not be until the 17th March. What I have decided to do this year is to have only one “begging” day per month and to get as many people to attend each one as possible to maximize the money that we make. I believe that this is more time effective and that the presence of more of us makes us appear more legitimate and therefore may encourage more people to give money. “Begging” days last year were a great success and hopefully, once again with your help, we can make them even better. The “begging” dates for 2007 are as follows:
17th March, 21st April, 19th May, 16th June, 21st July, 18th August, 15th September, 20th October, 17th November, 1st December and 15th December (two dates in December to cash in on people’s “Christmas spirit and generosity”).
As I have said before, the more the merrier and I would love to see as many of you as possible on the 17th March. The place again will be the Pitt Street Mall for every Saturday (let me know if more T-shirts are needed).
Since we have not had a “begging” day in January and in fact nothing else until the 17th March we thought that this would be a great time to plan for the 2007 Trivia Night before we all get too busy. We also thought that it would be a great idea not to wait until the middle of winter and freeze to death the way that we did last year (I know, I know, it was good fun in any case).
Once again, I am indebted to you in relation to help for the Trivia Night so can you (Please! Please! Please!) begin to send letters or approach again all of those very kind people who helped us last year. It was all of those wonderful hampers, vouchers and gifts donated to us which made it possible for us to make as much money as what we did. At this stage and as discussed last year, I would like to start moving some of the money into Timor. As I have explained to some of you the conditions there are deplorable and one of the pictures last received shows an entire school in possession of only two chairs. Andrew will be going to Timor on the 16th February and no doubt will keep us informed of how we may help.
We are also extremely excited because our first F4E Tour is to leave Australia on the 28th May 2007. You may recall from last year that the objective of F4E Tours is not only to raise money for the project (we hope to raise $1000 per participant) but also to raise the awareness of “normal” people about the condition and the states of affairs in developing countries such as Cambodia. We are also hoping that participants help once they get there with the 1001 jobs that are needed. Obviously, once the trip is organised we will be happy to discuss it much further with interested parties. So once again could you please help out by telling as many people as possible. The estimated cost at this stage is approximately $2500 including stopovers in Bangkok, transfers and most meals. Obviously participants will need to take insurance and have vaccinations, etc.
As you can see we have a bit of a late start but we are rearing to go again, full of ideas, full of optimism and full of hope for another great year ahead of us.
Since we are not having a “begging” day in February we thought we may get together on Sunday, 4th March 2007 at 1.00pm, to throw around some ideas for the Trivia Night. We can all meet at my place and then go to the nice Vietnamese restaurant on Burwood Road and exchange ideas, have a bit of lunch and exchange ideas. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for all of your help. Please give me a call any time soon with any ideas that you may have. Unless I hear from you before then, I will see you on the 4th March.
Love Maggie
