THE 'WINDY VILLAGE' FEEDING PROJECT

Between 2006 and 2010, F4E ran a feeding program at “Windy Village”. During this period of time F4E provided 120,000 nutritious meals to 300 children, 30 elderly people and a group of young mums and babies. This feeding program was terminated in June 2010,   when the lease on the land used for this purpose was not renewed.

It was here that we purchased huge flower pots, colourful toys gardening tools and flowers so that the children could engage in educational play. We also established a demonstration plot of a prototype garden which showed the villagers how to go about feeding a family.

 FREEDOM FOOD PROJECT

F4E assisted prisoners of Kampong Cham medium security jail to build a thriving garden which allowed the prisoners (who are not fed in
Cambodia) to grow healthy fruit, vegetables and to raise farm animals. F4E supplied training and funds to construct a well, purchase seeds and all the tools necessary for this venture. Prisoners of the jail were then able to contribute part of their crops to other F4E food distribution programs.

We are very proud of this program because it met all the vital, basic principles of effective rehabilitation programs. It provided training and transferable skills to people who did not have any. It gave them a sense of purpose and it improved their self-esteem. We encouraged them to contribute to society and most basically the program helped them feed themselves and their children. (In Cambodia, children often stay with their parents in jail).

RIVER FOOD AND AID RELIEF PROJECT

From 2007 to 2010, F4E supplied 32 families who were living in abject poverty in a slum area of the Meekong River, with weekly rice portions, dried sausage, dried fish as well as diet staples. Again, this project was terminated once this population was moved to the 'Freedom Village' near  'Windy Village'. At that stage, F4E began working on 'Freedom Village.' For more information on this topic, see 'Our work now' page.

THE 'GARBAGE CHILDREN'

In 2009, F4E was able to assist the “garbage children” of Phnom Penh. Unbelievably, these children live and spend their lives in the garbage dumps of Phnom Penh, just to survive. F4E was able to provide safety packs, containing gloves, masks, tweezers, etc. We were also able to donate six computers to the centre for vulnerable children in Phnom Penh.

COMPUTERS FOR THE DISABLED

In 2009, F4E donated six computers to the centre for the disabled in Phnom Penh. There are very few programs for the disabled in Cambodia which further reduces their chances of gaining employment, and makes it more difficult to break the cycle of poverty for this population.
