The moment we receive information from Kampong Cham it will be posted on this website. What follows is correspondence sent to us by the outreach workers. Thanks to Andrew Cook for forwarding this information to us:

  December 2008

Here's the view of the main section of Heartland's farm. From left, clockwise: The Goat House, The Pig Pen, The Chicken Coop, (The Cow Pen is hidden behind the caretaker's house), The Caretaker's House, The Mushroom House and all the vegetables and fruit tree growing in the middle (there are more vegetables and fruit trees not shown in this photo) and they have grown very successfully. Already they are providing some of the required food for the slum and the windy village feeding project. In two days time the animals will start to be moved on to the farm and hopefully one day soon the farm will provide all that is needed for the feeding projects.

Finally the house for the goats is finished, the well is sunk, the fence is built, the goat food planted, the caretaker's house in place, the shepherd employed and our Goat Farm is ready for the goats! We will arrange the delivery for Monday. The goats' milk will provide the poor with calcium and iodide necessary for good health, the goats will provide red meat with lots of iron and on top of that the farm will make a profit too!

Dear Uncle Rinna,

I have researched the market price of the following things:
1-Mosquito net ( B52 from Thailand): $ 3.25 each x 326 = $ 1059
( Average gets 1, Poor gets 2 per family) we have 213 families but I think about over half of this 213 families are the poor. That's why it becomes 326.
2- Sarong for 153 old persons: $2 x 153 = $306
3- Kroma for 153 old persons: $1.50 x 153 = $229.50
4- Seeds $ 3 each family: $3 x 213 = $639
The Total Price of these things is: US$ 2233.50
That's all imformation I researched. But sometime the price can be alittle bit changed.
(Now 1 bag of 50 kg of rice costs $35)

Take care.

Hi Channa

Thank you for your email and help.  You are too busy person. I am quite happy to work with you and your heartfelt toward assisting our less fortunate families in our home land. I live far away and it's only you who can manage, plan and organise on my behalf.
I hope Toes believe us now because she can take an opportunity to visit our base and perhaps she builds her trust toward our organisation.
When you have time, you can go to visit her village and complete our project, then we can move on to another villages.

Keep in touch and take care

Best wishes

Hello Uncle Rinna,

I am so sorry for late report. But I have been so busy this last week with the construction of the Heartland building too. Afew days ago, we signed the contract to start the building construction on our land. And the building will finish in 6 months from now. So I have been so busy with the builders.
But i will take time to do your work too. 2 days ago Auntie Tos came to our base. She wants to see our base and our family. She stayed for about 2 hours and headed back. And we gave her the money for the sign posts for the wells. But our with mistake we still owed her another US$ 12.50. We will pay her back anyway.

November 2007

Chan’s Daughter’s Wedding: They said the whole team is invited to the wedding. That’s included with Pastor Andrew, Janee’s family, Touch’s, and all the youths form Heartland Church. And it's good to have a bus for the whole day to take us there and back. The wedding starts at 7.00 AM. We might leave at 6.00 AM to join the morning ceremony and will be back after Lunch time or before dark.

July 2007

May 2006

The proper name of Windy village is Bangbasak. Even though it has a few names to call but it is under the same supervision of one village chief. These are some of the demographic on this village:

Population:                    There are 2093 people (432 families).

Infrastructures:             There are 2 churches, 1 primary school, no hospital, No hospital assistance.

Employment:                80% of the people are farmers, growing crops and rice in the rainy season. But due to the lack of rain/water 10% of people leave the village and go to work in Phnom Penh as the workers of garment factory especially women. Men are the house builders. They build the concrete house. And another 10% are government officials.

Mortality Rates:            2% of all the people in the village died every year.

Number of Children:     There are 631 children.

 Major problems facing:

Is unemployment. Most of people in the Village is hard to find job to                                        do because they are disqualified. They are not well educated. They didn’t have any chance to study in Pol Pot regimes. As the result, they suffered in making a small profit. Some people make 1 US Dollar per day and some people can make 2 US Dollars per day which is not enough for the family to make a better living. So parents would stop their children from going to school but sent them to work for instead to help the family. With planting rice, they cannot do it every month of the year. They can only do it once a year in rainy season. But because of water lacking they cannot live on it.

Another problem is health. The people are busy with finding food to eat so they do not spend enough time with hygiene. They don’t see it as their major need. So job and food is their lives.

Number of Elderly:        There are 127 people, start from age 65 and up.

Distance from Kampong Cham town:

                                       Approximately 6 Kilometers.

Impact of Khmer Rough:

As described above on unemployment case

And the same other villages through out Cambodia, this

Village was totally destroyed. Half of people were killed. Their properties were destroyed. Physically and spiritually broke. People were forced to leave their beloved one and worked hard for a tiny food to eat. In that time instead of sitting at school to study, all of the youths spent their time in the field working very hard in the sun restlessly under supervision of Khmer Rough.

In January 7th, 1979, Cambodia was rescued and all of Khmer people are free from non-wall jail. But as the result, there still a lot of people have no job to do and house to live. Mentally people are destroyed.
